ECCO was founded in 1963 by the Danish shoemaker Karl Toosbuyand wife Birte.
Karl Toosbuywas driven by curiosity. He wanted to pursue the possibilities within the field of shoemaking; his design philosophy and approach to being a shoemaker was that the shoe must follow the foot.
With that approach, he created the foundation that has led ECCO to international recognition with millions of dedicated feet around the world.
Today, ECCO Shoes and Accessories are sold in 87 markets at more than 3,300 shops and shop-in-shops, and at more than 14,000 sales points around the world.
ECCO is the workplace to 19,100 employees worldwide and one of the few major shoe manufacturers in the world to own and manage every step of the shoemaking process.
The company is family-owned.
HanniToosbuyKasprzak, daughter of Birteand Karl Toosbuy, and her husband, Dieter Kasprzak, took over the management and now run ECCO in partnership, as Chairman and CEO.
